Presidential Words of Wisdom Page 1
Hello to all of my Vannin’ family once again, had a great time At
Foreplay’s event. My hat’s off to the whole club - terrific job. I have been
told by Mike Moore that Gold Coast will not be doing the Key’s Truckin’ it
will be Broward, with possibly some help from other clubs. The council meeting
will be held on June 17th in South Florida. I am looking forward to
the nationals in Virginia on July 19-23. The council is renting a pole barn and
a porta potti and we will split the cost of the pole barn between those who come
there. Please give the council an idea of how many vans are coming. The FVC is
putting on a Labor Day Truckin’ in Ocala, and we are working on getting
another website up and running as soon as possible. Some food for thought, while
I was at the Council of Councils I talked to many long time vanners about
Florida Truckin’ and their coming to one. The answer I got from them is you
don’t come see us, why should we come see you. I can see their point; maybe we
as a council should make an effort to go to one out of state truckin’ even if
we might not be able to make the Nationals. The more effort we put out, the
better our results will be. Until I see you all again Truck safe and take care. Shogun
Sad News One
day, there are many of us and the next there are few. On Thursday, February 16,
2006 at 9:00 am Sandra Howell passed quietly into our Lords arms. Sandra, known
to us as Sam, was the wife of the late Dr. Doug. They were the backbone of Smoke
City Truckers. Many of us had the pleasure of trucking with them for many years.
A few of us are even in the “Book”. It seems that she came down with an
inoperable cancer. When she passed, she was surrounded by family and friends.
She will be sorely missed. As a long time friend, I will say that she was a
wonderful wife and mother, a very faithful vanner and a once in a lifetime
friend. Rest easy baby and I hope one day to see you on the other side of life! Iceman Page 2 Vice Presidents Words of Vice Dear FVC, What great weather and fun we had at Beverly Beach. That's one of my favorite campgrounds. I made it until 2:30 am Friday night. Woo-Hoo! That is a new record for me. :) I was back in bed at my usual 9:30 on Saturday night. It was great to see every one again. I will be in Tennessee and will miss the next meeting in June. Please have fun without me! I have some really good stuff for the Labor Day weekend goodie bags but can always use more donations. Anything left over will be used for the Keys eVANt, sponsored by Broward and friends. Try to bring at least one new friend to each eVANt. We are down to bare-bones attendance these days. I hope every one has a wonderful summer and keeps in touch with one another. Best wishes. Cari
Gee, we were going to make a game out of guessing which route Cari would take to Okee Tantee. Guess we will have to find another game to amuse ourselves. More Sad News
Gary DeClue a member of Heads up Vanners and spouse of Janet Bown/DeClue who was a long time vanner from Louisiana and Alabama back in the late 70’s and early 80”s has gone to the big truckin in the sky. His family and friends will miss him. Gary had a quiet strength about him that many counted on and will leave a hole in the lives of many. Gary was born August 7, 1955 in Newton Massachusetts; left us on March 28, 2006 surrounded by those who loved him. Our deepest condolences to Janet and her daughter Arie.
Also, I’m sorry to hear and report Woodstock's mom passed away recently. If you’d like to send a

Minutes
of the March 18, 2006 meeting at Floridian RV Resort in St. Cloud are as
follows: Cale called the
m Minutes of the January 14, 2006
meeting were read and approved. There were 6 clubs present and 1
Excused Absence (out of 13 clubs total) during roll call. Steve Capps noted that he would
get married on April 22 at High Noon, in Deland on Lake Dias.
Reception will be held at 339 E. Beresford.
Call Steve for directions. NEW BUSINESS: Cale
put out a sign-up sheet for volunteers for games, etc. for the FVC Labor Day
event. Buffalo Bob, of Coastal,
suggested that it might be time for the clubs to disappear and have The Florida
Van Club, with chapters. The
current club rep could be the President of that chapter.
For example the current rep for Coastal would end up being the President
of the Coastal chapter of the Florida Van Club. We could limit the chapters to 5 vans minimum so we would
have more units to put on events. He
also noted that we shouldn’t have to pay $10 to be a club, just so we can have
a vote. Joe Van noted that we only
have 2 or 3 events per year. Let’s
do things together. Chester asked,
“How is this going to get us more support?
We still have the same people doing the work.” Magoo noted that if you want to
be independent, do it! We need the
clubs to put on the events. He also
noted, that, the problem with every member voting is that you have to be present
to vote. You wouldn’t have your
FVC representative at the meeting, voting for your club. However, he added that, if you pay dues, you ought to get a
vote. After a straw vote indicated
enough interest in each FVC member having a vote, Scribe John was tasked with
making a proposed motion and putting it in the next issue of the newsletter. The
reason for this is because this change would affect more than Broward
thanked everyone who attended the primitive at Sidewinder’s. It was noted that the next
meeting would be at Okee-Tantie. Chester
objected to the long drive. Others
noted that Pam and Linard have a long drive to come up to St. Cloud. VAN-IN UPDATES: __________________________________________ Page 4 FVC

January 19 - 21, 2007 at River Forest Group Camping area near Deland.
Randy noted that the event has been moved back one week.
Pre-reg ONLY. $42. The Keys Event
Mike Moore noted that the event will be held next year for sure but there
is no signed contract with the campground yet. Agnes
noted that FVC Printer #1 has died, so we’re using Printer #2. Anyone
participating in the Hot Rod Power Tour is invited to Agnes’ house the night
before so we can all start together. You
can pay by the day, or for the whole tour. You get a better parking place and more goodies if you sign
up for the whole tour. On
the subject of getting more interest in the FVC, Agnes noted that we need to
start USING the tri-fold pamphlets and/or business cards for the windshields. Cale
invited suggestions for a Memorial Day get-together. He also gave a recap of the Council of Councils (CofC)
meeting in Anaheim. There was an
energetic debate regarding kid’s game age, etc.
That is, at what age do you quit participating in the kid’s games and
do the adult games? Iceman said
that it’s always up to the parents to police their own kids.
Ila Jean said it should be mandatory for kids to be in their campsite by
10 PM. COUNCIL OF COUNCILS: Magoo
suggested that the FVC propose hosting the 2008 Council of Councils Meeting.
Cari said she would check out some hotels in the Cocoa Beach area.
The 2007 CofC meeting will be held in Niagara Falls. Cale wants to host the NATS in Florida. The average attendance is 400 – 500 vans. He says we could host a NATS with 30 – 40 dedicated folks. We need to find a location that has plenty of power and water. Buffalo Bob will see if he can find a suitable location. Steve
Capps made a motion to adjourn and the meeting was concluded.
Respectfully submitted,
Scribe John ____________________________________________________________________________ Vanning Around the World Page 5 Please send all flyers to Judith Pilon 817 Wildabon Ave. Lake Wales, FL or e-mail. Judpilon@aol.com or 407-484-2234 June 2-4
