Hello fellow Vanners!

What a great kick off to the 2009-vanning season with Vanners for Vanners, and now Fore Plays “ Cinco De Mayo’s Toga Party at the Beach/Air Band’s of the 80’s. What a great time and the weather was perfect! No need for AC that weekend! A BIG THANKS to all the folks in Fore Play for doing such a great job of hosting!!! It was also nice to see some old faces we have not seen at an event in a while. Let’s hope this is a growing trend and continues to happen more often! And the Band! Wow! That had to be one of the best shows of live music I’ve seen in a while! We received a few notes of thanks through Vannin.com and our FVC web page on how much some of our visiting vanners enjoyed the event. Hopefully they’ll be back to party with us again and bring their friends with them. Vannin.com had 17 comments and pictures of the event posted with 246 views of the posts! That’s a lot of folks checking out how we do it down south!

Just around the corner (June 13th) we have our FVC meeting at Boggy Creek/St. Cloud…hope to see lots of members there to finalize our Keys truckin agenda! Be thinking about how you can help the council put this year’s Party on! A signup sheet will be started to organize the event and we will need as many members possible to help out in some small way.

Also in our sights is Coastal Vans of Daytona’s event @ Clark Family campground August 14th, 15th, and 16th. Let’s get those pre-reg’s in to show our support for this great new location.

A new rule I would like to invoke is a mandatory rule against puking on the tiki-bar. It seems someone “who name we will not mention” had way to good of a time with tequila shots.  Although “He” made an attempt to sweep it away it put fear in other patrons that their feet might be next!  Then I heard someone say “look…Buffalo tracks in the sand” Not sure what they were talking about….I never saw any buffalo’s??

Sorry Buddy…I had to say that! LOL!

Thanks, and Keep on Vannin!        Dan’o        FVC  Prez - 2009

Hello FVC,

Wow, the year is sailing along. I can hardly believe it's half over.  Does that mean we are having fun or just getting old?
I had such a large time at Beverly Beach.  Thank you ForePlay!  I made it to 1:30 am Friday night to win the Toga Contest then crashed at 10:30 Saturday night.  sigh.

I am having a well-deserved vacation for a week in May to the Keys.  Take me away.

I am looking forward to Coastal’s eVANt in August.  Guess I'll have to get over to Ken's to retrieve my a/c from the garage.  Jr and Glenda's is soon after that, then the Keys again.
Cyssi is finally getting married at 49, old maid!  I will going up to LO-ONGI-LAND in November for the festivities.  She misses getting down to the Keys with me every year now that she's a Yankee bride.
Not much other news.  Be safe and love one another.  See you soon.

Love You, mean it,

Cari

Just wanted to drop a line and let the FVC know what a great job Fore play did hosting this event. The evening entertainment was awesome the band was good and karaoke night was real cool. I don’t want to sound like I am complaining but I know a few of the ladies were not so happy with the cleanliness of the south restroom I will personally sign up and volunteer for this next year I have no problem helping out at any vannin all and all it was a kick *?! time. Can’t wait till next time. (Email message)

Luke

Just a note to say: thanks for the good run at the beach. This year was good as always. Again thanks! Big Foot Paul

FVC Meeting

You never can tell what might happen at a June meeting. One thing for sure we will have a good time. There will be good friends, having a good time. Bring a covered dish, bring a friend just be ready to have fun.

Florida Van Council Minutes

Minutes of the March 28, 2009 meeting at Floridian R.V. Resort in St. Cloud are as follows:

Dan’o called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the January 31, 2009 meeting were read and approved.

There were 6 clubs present and 3 Excused Absences (out of 13 clubs total) during roll call.

Mook gave the Treasurer's report. She noted that we needed to consider renting a port-a-potty for the NATS.  She also noted that the membership packets are being worked on.

FVC NEWSLETTER UPDATE:

Agnes passed around a copy of “Vanning Down Under” that she received from Australia. The FVC newsletter has been re-sized to 5 ½” x 8 ½”.  This saves a little on color ink, and on the paper, itself.  Agnes got estimates from places like Kinko’s to have them do all the printing of the newsletter.  The estimates ranged from $223 to $300.  Agnes said that there wasn’t enough difference to consider making a change. A motion by Dan’o (seconded by Junior) that Agnes continues printing the FVC newsletter at Agnes’ Print Shop was carried by a hand vote.  Lew noted that the smaller size saves a little on postage.  Also, Dan’o managed to get some 6” x 9” envelopes donated.  That saves time, as the newsletter won’t have to be folded.

MEETING DATES FOR THE REMAINDER of 2009:

Date

Location

June 13

St. Cloud – Floridian R.V. Resort

September 5

Junior & Glenda’s – Englewood

November 14

St. Cloud – Floridian R.V. Resort – Pig Roast

OLD BUSINESS:

Dan’o modeled the FVC T-shirt he had made to see if the group wants to have more FVC T-shirts made.  His source can get a variety of types of shirts, not just T-shirts.  He gave an estimate of $14 for T-shirts; other types will cost more.  His source keeps white and ash in stock.  Buffalo Bob noted that he liked the Van logo on the back, but preferred the simple, small round FVC logo on the front.  That’s the logo we’ve had for years.  The group agreed with Bob.  Dan’o passed around a list for members to sign up as to what shirts they would like, as regards to how many, and the sizes.

Dan’o noted that all tickets had been sold for the 76 Ford van raffle.  The drawing will be on April 4, 2009.  The taped video of the drawing will be put on YouTube on April 5, 2009.

COUNCIL OF COUNCILS:

Junior gave a report on the 2009 Council of Councils meeting in Las Vegas.  Next year’s meeting will be held February 19 – 21, 2010 in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, hosted by the Wisconsin Van Council. Room rate is $69 per day.  There is no airport shuttle to the hotel, so rental cars will be the order of the day.

FVC WEBSITE:

It was noted that the “Agenda” button on the website is way out of date.  The meeting agenda is for July 2006.  Agnes requested that we take the date off.

It was also noted that the FVC membership application on the website needs to be changed to reflect the new Treasurer information.

It was suggested that we put a “hit” counter on the “Vanning Around the World” page, since we believe a lot of folks are checking that out.  It would be nice to know just how many.  Scribe John agreed to update the Agenda page, the FVC membership application page, and put a “hit” counter on the “Vanning Around the World” page.

NEW BUSINESS:

Cale suggested that, for the first event only, we should credit $10 per person for potential new blood to get in to an event.  That would be an incentive to let them try it out and see how much fun we have.  The host club determines all the monetary conditions at an event, so implementation of this suggestion would be up to the host club.  The host club could also offer a discount for first-timers.

VAN-IN PROPOSALS:

Coastal             Dan’o said that Coastal was checking out a campground on 472, near Orange City/Deland for a possible event on Labor Day.  It was noted that we already have the FVC meeting at Junior & Glenda’s on Labor Day weekend.  So, Coastal will have to select another date.

The Keys eVANt          October 2009  Linard said we should give Coastal the first shot at hosting the Keys eVant.  If they don’t want to host the event, then the FVC should do it.  We will need a rep from the FVC to interface with Marlene, at the campground.  Linard volunteered to be that liaison rep, and to secure Thunderhead as the entertainment for $600 for 2 nights.

Agnes said that we could work it like Vanners for Vanners; everybody chips in.  Spookytooth will get there first, connect with the campground, and help with the setup.  Spookytooth said we should keep the event on the beach.  He also said we don’t really need to have games, as most of us just kick back and enjoy.

A motion by Linard (seconded by Lew) that the FVC host the Keys event carried by a hand vote of 11 FOR and none AGAINST.

VAN-IN UPDATES

Foreplay           There will be individual and club trophies for the Friday Toga Party, and the Saturday 80’s theme party.  The FVC will handle the refreshment center.  Cale noted that he is trying to get the VW Van Club to come to our events, including Beverly Beach.

New Years Eve              December 31, 2009 – January 3, 2010 at Chester’s Ranch

Vanners for Vanners     Doe Lake Campground, January 15 – 18, 2010.

OPEN DISCUSSION:

Spookytooth thanked everyone for their thoughts and cards for the wedding.  He also thanked Agnes for the photo of him and his van on the cover of the March 2009 FVC Newsletter.

Cari made a motion to adjourn and the meeting was concluded.

Respectfully submitted,

Scribe John

Secretary

Recipe for a truckin;

1.       take one great campground in the Florida sun, right on the ocean.

2.       mix with a host club whose “mission statement” should be 3 words;

      party, party, party

3.       Add some cool entertainment, interesting adult (?) games, and a “we’re on vacation attitude”

4.       sprinkle with goodies from the Tiki Bar

5.       Add generous amounts of southern vanners

Mix well for the whole weekend.   Enjoy with good friends This is how you make a great evant. Thanks to the chefs of Foreplay Vanners for cooking up this recipe.

                                                             Buffalo Bob and Carol

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is MY version of Foreplay’s Beverly Beach evant, others including my wife may not agree but what the hell that’s nothing new.

First of all when I registered there was a disclaimer saying that we couldn’t be held liable for our actions (oh, wait, Carol just said it said we wouldn’t hold Foreplay responsible. She must be kidding, who ever put “Foreplay Vanners” and “responsible” in the same sentence except in arrest affidavits)

We got there early Friday aft. And actually got to park in a tight circle of long time vanners Chet, Junior and The Good Witch, Pam, the puppies and Linard, Cari, Six Pack and Agnes and Lew J and his gang of 2nd and 3rd. generation vanners. We overlooked the ocean right next to us. It don’t get no better then that.

Okay now to get to Friday night. Now I want everybody to know I was a victim of circumstances. I innocently went over to check out the Tiki Bar. On the left was your usual selection of “cute” little tooters, on the right was Yeager Bombs (whoa!) and in the middle was a pile of limes and a saltshaker. I have a weakness for Tequila and imagine my surprise when Pam told me they had Tequila shots. She insisted that I have one. Tequila shots are like potato chips, you can’t have just one. Well after that anytime I was even 10 feet from the bar she would call me over and insist I have 1 or 2 more. I think Linard was directing her. By about the 12th one I was insisting “no mas, no mas” but Carol came over and insisted I have one more with Charlie (last surviving member of Sanford Express), how could I refuse? The salt and tequila went down easy enough but the damn lime did me in and, WHAM, just like that I was slightly intoxicated. As I cleared my throat I accidentally spit up a little on the bar. A little while later I quietly excused myself and decided to retire early. By the next morning I was amazed at the tall tales that were going around about me. Because I was a good sport despite all the things mean people accused me of Foreplay decided to give me a good sport award, they called it the “life of the party” award. No matter what actually happened that award is now one of my prized vanning trophies of all time.

Buffalo (puke,puke,puke)Bob

PS, Lew hold that bottle for me, (don’t let Carol know, it will be our secret)

Hi all,

Just wanted to say that I had a great time seeing all of you at Beverly Beach, The weather was beautiful, lots of people played the games and we had the biggest van show that I've seen in a long time.  Another good run by Foreplay Vanners

Sounds like a lot of people are planning to go to the Nats.  PA always does a great job so this is a good one to go to.  I'm leaving on the 14th of May to head north.  So next time I see some of you will be Nats.  The rest of you I'll see in the Keys.

You all have a great summer,

Judith

Run for office for 2010

The FVC needs you
Beverly Beach

I don’t see how anyone could go to ForePlay’s Beverly Beach and not have a good time. I know I really relaxed and enjoyed myself.

I have been so stressed over the work situation. Every time they lay off I hold my breath that I am not on the list. However staying has not been easy either. Now, the state that is doing such a fine job running the government, is trying to run the schools too. I have had observers in my room several times. So now you know why I have been so stressed.

So far I have made it through all the cuts. If they were going to let you go Friday was the last day. I made it. So I had good reason to celebrate.

Friday, we arrived later than usual. Pam and Linard had the Tiki Bar under control. Every time I tried to help I didn’t have anything to do. So I joined the other side of the bar. I danced almost every dance. I dressed our Pres, Lew J. and a few others in proper Toga costume. How can the President of the FVC attend a toga party with out a toga? Well we took care of that. The band played until late but we were still having fun. After the Tiki bar closed we moved the party to ForePlay. We were among the last to finally give in and find our beds.

LJ and Noni had Lew J and Lin up before us. After breakfast SixPack put the van in the show, while I headed to the beach. In no time it was lunch, kids naps, and afternoon games. After a fun filled afternoon. Cale cranked up for Karaoke. Saturday was 80”s night. The host club went all out with costumes and air band competition. It was great. Again I found myself on the party side of the bar. Carol kept Buffalo Bob away from the bar and tequila shots. You all know why! My water was just a little dark as I danced and visited the night away. Before I knew it trophies had been given away. Games were over and the crowd was thinning. But hey I’m a vanner I didn’t let that stop me. I just partied on. Soon the Tiki bar closed and the crowd got thinner. We moved to ForePlay again before slipping away to our sanctuary.

I don’t remember when I had such a good time.

I was glad to here Coastal is hosting an event in August. Then, another Labor Day with Jr. and Glenda. Last year we had a lot of fun I can’t wait to do it again. Save us a spot Jr. The Keys will be after that in October. I always look forward to the pig roast and holiday activities. I also have a busy summer planned. Looks like I have a busy schedule for the rest of this year. I hope to see you at an eVANt or three.
